App wants to help you "Get close even when you can't be close."

Home in self-isolation? Lonely? Well, cheer up, buttercup—because now there's an app for that!

Designed by Christopher Smeder and Daniel Ahmadizadeh, the brand-new app has only been around for about two weeks and was inspired out of boredom and a desire to help others through what may be a long, lonely few months. And thus, Quarantine Together was born. They purchased a domain name on March 8 and launched the dating app about a week later.

So, how does it work exactly?

Quarantine Together is a little different than those other dating apps where you swipe left or right or get matched because you answered questions the same way. It's a text-based app, to start with, and registered users are sent a message at 6 p.m. each evening asking a very important question: "Did you wash your hands or stay home today?" If the answer is yes, users are sent a text introducing them to another user. After a 15-minute chat, both individuals are asked if they want to video chat and get sent a link. It's then up to them to decide if they want to keep the conversation going, or not.

In this app, users are not given any other information than the other person's name, so there may be some not-so-good matches or they may be spot on; either way, it's an opportunity to meet someone new and make a connection.

For a brand-new app, it's getting a lot of attention, starting with 200 users on day one and growing by about 50 percent every day, according to the designers. In fact, right now, the app is at capacity and adding users to the waitlist so they can access the service. Follow them on Twitter @helloQT2020 or Instagram @helloQT2020 to be notified of special chances to be bumped to the front of the line!

Quarantine Together is completely free, but donations are being accepted to help secure masks for healthcare workers and other personal protective equipment. They believe one of the biggest appealing factors is that the app is not based on a profile picture or a well-worded biography, it's about connecting on a simple level with another human being.

Dating apps may see an increase as people look for ways to socialize and meet new people while socially distancing. In a way, it forces the process to slow down and opens up possibilities that may not have been explored before.

This is a neat way to connect with people and a great platform to raise support for healthcare workers. It's the time to just #StayHome, but that doesn't mean we can't connect and forge new relationships. What do you think about this new app? Would you want to try to find love while isolated at home? Give us the scoop in the comments.

Where to dress like a gangster, find love and kiss a puppy this weekend - Myhorrynews

Sunday is all about puppy love at Local on the Water in North Myrtle Beach.

Local OTW is hosting two events this weekend for the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society, starting off on Saturday with a 1920s-themed fundraiser benefitting feline vet care and finishing off on Sunday with a single dog-parent mixer.

Radio station Energy 92.1 will be on-site Saturday, and WKZQ will be there for Sunday's mixer.

"We're having our "Furrball," which is a Great Catsby theme this Saturday," said NMBHS Executive Director Tina Hunter. "This is our largest fundraiser every year. Each year we have a different theme, and this year our theme is the Great Catsby."

The event will harken back to the "purring 20s," Hunter said, with guests encouraged to dress up as flappers and gangsters. An old car will be on site as a picture prop, and there will be a silent auction and prizes. The best costume also gets a prize.

"We're having somebody come out and teach 20's dancing," Hunter added. "We have a large silent auction, we have some fun prohibition-themed games, but we're not calling it prohibition, we're calling it 'purrhibition.'"

On Sunday, the cats make way for the dogs, and single dog-parents and dog-lovers are invited out to mingle.

Nina Stebbins, wife of Local OTW restaurant operator David Stebbins, came up with the idea for the event.

"I have some friends down here that are like, habitual daters," Stebbins said. "Speed daters, blind dates, Tinder, you name it, they're dying for love. And anytime I go either for support or to hang out and make fun of them, it's so awkward. Just ridiculously awkward, I don't know how anybody gets through it. But now you add a dog to the mix; who doesn't want to kiss a puppy?"

And because almost everyone loves dogs, Stebbins added, the puppies are a good ice-breaker and a distraction.

"So we figured if we just combine the two, now you can date or look and meet people and not have it be as awkward, because the dog's going to kiss everybody, he's going to break the ice," Stebbins said. "If friends come, at least they're not going to be in the corner going 'Oh my God, I can't believe my friend is doing this.' They're over playing with the dogs, doing whatever, too."

The wrap-around patio at Local is dog-friendly and Stebbins said the Humane Society is her favorite charity, "so any excuse I can get to have them come in or have a puppy here, I'm in."

The Great Catsby tickets are $60 per person and the event lasts from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

The dog-parent mixer is from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and is open to the public.

Local On The Water is located at 1525 13th Avenue North, North Myrtle Beach.

Staying positive: Austin communities find creative ways to spread love during tough times - KVUE.com

AUSTIN, Texas — At a time when it's easy to feel alone, people are sending out positive messages to the Austin community, letting folks know we're in this together.

In Downtown Austin, you may have noticed the J.W. Marriot lights up with a big heart at night on the side of the building, spreading love to those who pass by it.

In other parts of town like North Austin, you will see more acts of kindness. We drove through the Crestview neighborhood Monday morning and found this: a giant chair offering up a big air hug to a world that needs it, and it reads, "ChAir hug, love your neighbor." It sits on Justin Lane and Arroyo Seco.

Joggers and walkers nearby told us the person who owns the house is constantly putting up positive messages like this. They did it for New Year's, St. Patrick's Day and now they're doing it just because.

"He had a sign, I think you've seen the expression elsewhere, 'We're together though we have to be apart,' so he's constantly refreshing his chair to let us know that everything's going to be OK," said Paul Borelli, who lives in the neighborhood. "It makes me feel like there's somebody out there who can see the bright side ahead and is positive and makes it feel more like a community."

People in the community are also finding unique ways to celebrate birthdays.

We stopped by a family's home. The father told us it was his daughter's third birthday and they, unfortunately, had to cancel her party because of social distancing and the stay-at-home orders. So, they put the big signs up to surprise her instead.

Also in North Austin, the Gracywoods community came together to celebrate a little girl's birthday with a drive-thru celebration. Her name is Emma and she just turned nine years old.

So when you're out grabbing groceries or running other essential errands, look around. You never know what might be there to make you smile.
