Why Making 'The Fall Guy' Terrified Ryan Gosling - Vulture

Image
Photo: Universal Pictures You would not expect a big action flick called The Fall Guy to also be one of the more intimate and romantic movies of the year. Based on the cult 1980s Lee Majors TV show, David Leitch's film follows a down-on-his-luck stuntman pulled into a missing-persons case on the Sydney set of a sci-fi blockbuster. It showcases some of the most impressive stunts in recent movie history, all filmed with style and gusto by Leitch (who directed movies like John Wick , Atomic Blonde , and Deadpool 2 , after a career as a stunt double and stunt coordinator). And yet, walking out of the movie, you might find yourself thinking more about its quieter moments of yearning, built around the simmering chemistry of leads Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. Gosling plays Colt Seavers, an acclaimed stunt double who dropped out of the

85 Greatest Love Songs to Stream Now in 2024 - PureWow

Let's be honest: Love songs always hit right in the feels. A ballad can transform from a regular song into the soundtrack of your relationship—whether you're celebrating your 25th anniversary or just uttering "I love you" for the first time on Valentine's Day.  But what makes a great love song? The top-secret recipe starts with the lyrics. You can go from a jazzy number that spells out letters (like "L-O-V-E" by Nat King Cole) to a rock hit that breaks down the true meaning of love (like "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner) or even a nostalgic track that makes you reflect on past relationships (like "Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry). Simply put: Love songs have stood the test of time through so many decades.  Seriously, the '60s and '70s were all about soul and funk, while the '80s ushered in pop and rock. And then the '90s and early '00s gave us some of the greatest R&B hits of all ti

How gloves transformed prize fighting from an illegal bloodsport into big business - Yahoo Sports

These days it's taken as an article of faith. It's almost like a magic trick, the way it flips a switch in our brains. You turn on the TV (or, let's be real, click on a video during the day's endless scroll) and see two people punching each other in the face with bare fists? That's a problem. That's vulgar, somehow. Depending on the setting, it might even be a crime. But, you take those same two people and put them in gloves? Then, something changes. Whether they're boxing gloves or the smaller, more tactile MMA gloves, it doesn't matter. The appearance of the gloves suggests a sense of forethought and organization. Precautions have been taken. What would otherwise look like the breakdown of law and order now suddenly looks like sport. This is a trick in more ways than one. A lot of people assume that the gloves are there for safety. In a sense that's true, just not how those people think. Sit in the locker room at a UFC event and watch as fighters g

Enter the Dragon 50th Anniversary: Bruce Lee's Daughter, Shannon, On Its Legacy - Esquire

Image
Bruce Lee was a god amongst men. He commanded impossible strength, charisma, and vigor—and Enter the Dragon captured it all on celluloid for posterity. When the film hit theaters in August 1973, action cinema changed forever; its awesome might only added to its leading man's evergreen mystique. But Lee never had the chance to witness Enter the Dragon 's impact. He died of a cerebral edema at the age of 32, a month before the movie's release. Fifty years later, Enter the Dragon still spellbinds audiences—especially Lee's daughter, Shannon, who tells me she loves merely listening to the film. "It's his own voice in the film, as opposed to being dubbed over," she explains over recent video call. "It holds a special place in my heart just in terms of connecting with my father." Of all of Lee's films, including Fist of Fury , The Game of Death , and The Way of the Dragon— with its all-time showdown between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris—Shannon says

WOIO spoke with one of Baraka's older sisters who said it took two days for officials to identify him after his body was found. Sesa Bakenra said her brother, who usually went by Sanu, left a legacy as a global performer as a master djembe drummer and teacher. Baraka had even appeared on the big screen in a film alongside Eddie Murphy. "He will be missed dearly. He will be remembered for his performances in 'Coming to America 2,' the soundtrack and the movie, as well as the opening for the Guava Island film starring Rihanna," Bakenra said. "He also performed for the likes of Stevie Wonder, Destiny's Child and multiple international
