BEL MOONEY: I wanted to find love but all I got was an old, sleazy man - Daily Mail

Image
Thought of the week  Now what was she to do? To give way to her feelings, or to vanquish them?... She will determine to look on life steadily as it is; to begin to learn its severe truths seriously, and to study its knotty problems closely, conscientiously. from Shirley by Charlotte Bronte (English novelist, 1816-1855) Dear Bel,  I had two very unhappy, abusive relationships, moving from one to the next fairly quickly, without proper counselling to help me heal. But while in the second relationship I got help from a wonderfully supportive group of women, all fellow survivors of domestic violence, and that gave me the strength to leave. After ending that relationship I was single for more than a year, and saw myself as a strong confident woman for the first time in my life. I wasn’t a victim any more, I was a survivor! Then, a year ago, I started a new relationship with a man I met online — 27 years older (62 to my 35), although he looked younger and knocked ten years...

This Chinese company offers 30 leaves to find love - AajNews

Image
Web Desk: Two companies in China are offering their single female employees some extra time leaves to find love this Lunar New Year. “Single women over thirty are commonly regarded as ‘leftover women’ in China due to long-held conservative beliefs that women who remain unmarried beyond their mid-twenties are less desirable to men,” reports the  South China Morning Post . Reports also state that the marriage rate in China has dipped since 2013, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs. A growing number of old people has also taken a hit on the workforce and causing the economy to suffer. So, the country that took population control policies is now struggling to get the country’s birth rate back on track. In conservative China, single women over the age of 30 are commonly referred to as ‘leftover women’ and are stigmatized; those above the twenties are less desirable to men. According to the  South China Morning Post , this dating leave strategy was inspired from...

Who'll find love on our blind date? This week it's Janet, 70, and Malcolm, 75, - Daily Mail

Image
Every week, we send a couple out on a blind date and report back. This time, Malcolm Grenney, 75, had lunch at the Hartnoll Hotel in Bolham, near Tiverton, Devon, with Janet Hiscock, 70. Malcolm, a retired businessman, is divorced and lives in Barnstaple, Devon. Janet, a widow, lives in Sidmouth, which is also in Devon. JANET, 70, SAYS: Janet Hiscock, 70, (pictured) is a widow from Sidmouth in Devon  I’ve been a widow for eight years and have been on every single dating site going. I’ve mostly found that men my age are not really up to much and are a bit staid. I’m fit and feel young for my age, dress fashionably and live an active life. I’m young at heart and most of my friends are ten years younger — so I did worry about Malcolm’s age, but, as soon as I saw him, I knew we would have a great time. Malcolm’s really attractive — he doesn’t look 75 at all — and was dressed in a really lovely jacket with a red trim. When I complimented him on it, he opened it to show the ...

You, too, can find love online; but look carefully, by John McGauley - The Keene Sentinel

I know a thing or two about affairs of the heart. Not cardiology, per se, but romance, although I do know a few things about how the heart functions — you know, veins and valves and that stuff. Being a careful student of human relations, I’ve been fascinated for years by online dating. Many, many couples I know are together because of it; that’s a fact, and I listen to their stories. They’re both young and old, gay and straight, just about any combination you can imagine. We’re all God’s children and we’re all looking for love. Now, I personally don’t participate in online dating because I’m happily married and have been for many years. Happily. Married. For. Years. Years, I tell you, durn tootin that’s true. Okay, that’s out of the way. Online dating has a history, and it started out in a very crude form as anonymous ads in the back of newspapers and magazines, called “personals.” Only older people will remember those. Because you had to pay by the word, descriptions were te...

This is the story of Ayelet Dikshtein and Avigdor Gavish, who experienced awful tragedy, but decided to move on, refusing to succumb to the pain, and who found each other. Childhood friends find love and marriage after 64 years: Talk of the Towns - cleveland.com

Image
BRECKSVILLE, Ohio -- Bill Snow and Sandy Faryer have known each other for 64 years -- first meeting in kindergarten class at Highland Drive Elementary School. They were friends all through school, but never dated. They went on to marry other people and had children. Fast forward to 2017 when they attended their 50-year class reunion. Now, being single, they met again and started dating. Their relationship grew quickly, to the point of marriage. That's when they found me. Being an ordained non-denominational minister, I officiated at their wedding on Jan. 11. The lovely, intimate ceremony took place at their home in Brecksville with their two dear friends, Dwight and Pat Jordan, standing with them as best man and maid of honor. Now, this is where it gets even more interesting: Bill and Sandy have known Dwight and Pat since kindergarten, as well. What a love story this is  -- not only for Bill and Sandy, but also for their wonderful, long-time relationship with their dear friends...
