2018 is coming to end so why are we not dating on Facebook, where is Facebook Dating? - India Today

In May, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to the stage at F8 Conference. He announced something that you can, figuratively, call a rallying cry for the singles of the world. "Singles of the world, unite on Facebook and you shall find dates." Well, he didn't say that but he might have. Zuckerberg announced Facebook Dating, a new feature on the social media site that would supposedly change the way people date. Seven months later, most of the world is still waiting for that promised feature. The year 2018 is coming to an end and as we take a leap into a brand new year, it is time to reflect on the promises that Facebook made and the ones that it didn't keep this year. Admittedly, the list is long. But we are not here to jog the company's conscience into caring about issues like transparency, data privacy and data security, on all of which Facebook had a tough time. We are here talking about a certain dating feature Facebook promised to deliver earlier this year. Z...

In response to a New York Times article , Facebook ( FB - Free Report ) cleared in a blog post that it gave companies access to user information with their consent, and did not violate its 2012 Federal Trade Commission (FTC) settlement. Notably, companies like Netflix ( NFLX - Free Report ) , Spotify, Amazon ( AMZN - Free Report ) , Apple and the Royal Bank of Canada had read, write and delete access to the users private messages only when they chose to login into Facebook through one of these apps/platforms. The partnerships were aimed at allowing users to directly share information with their friends from the respective apps/platforms. Information such as what music they were listening to or what Netflix shows they want to recommend were allowed to be shared. Therefore, in order to support users messaging capabilities these partners had read, write and delete access to users’ private messages, per Facebook. Additionally, the company offered instant personalization featur...

Facebook’s updated Community Guidelines don’t prohibit discussing your sexual orientation - The Verge

A recent update to Facebook’s Community Guidelines worried some users that the company was placing strict new limits on discussing sex and sexual orientation — but Facebook says users have little reason to worry. In October, the company added a new section to its guidelines that covers “Sexual Solicitation.” In it, the company writes that people cannot post content that “engages in explicit sexual solicitation,” which could mean “following, offering, or asking for: sex or sexual partners; sex chat or conversations; nude images,” or “content that offers or asks for other adult activities such as: commercial pornography; partners who share fetish or sexual interests.” It also bans any content that “engages in implicit sexual solicitation” that could involve offering or asking for things like erotic images, “vague suggestive statements,” “sexualized slang,” and people’s sexual preferences. This applies to all Groups, Pages, and Messenger chats, Facebook tells The Verge . Understandabl...

Facebook's Dating Service is Launching in 2 New Countries Thailand and Canada

CALIFORNIA – On Thursday, the Silicon Valley social-networking firm announced that Facebook Dating, its online dating service, was launching in Canada and Thailand and adding some features. The product, the company’s answer to OkCupid or Tinder, first launched in Colombia in September after being announced at Facebook’s F8 conference earlier this year. Facebook Dating doesn’t have its own app; instead, it’s nestled inside the core Facebook app. (The company says it has no plans to spin it out.) Facebook is positioning it as a way to find serious partners rather than casual matches — there’s no swiping and liking, which the product manager Nathan Sharp likened to “speed dating” in an interview with Business Insider. Instead, when users see someone they like, they send the person an initial message based on a piece of content (a photo or an answer to a preset question) on the person’s profile. If the recipient responds, it will start a proper conversation. (Users can’t send a second...

Some students may have met their partners through Facebook, but now the social media site is launching a feature meant for matchmaking. Facebook Dating launched in Canada on Nov. 8, after having piloted in Columbia. Instead of being its own app—like Messenger—Facebook Dating is a feature that users can access through the main Facebook app, and opt-in to if they’d like. Ava Vahidi, a second-year student at Carleton University, said she doesn’t see the feature being used by people who are university age. “I think for older people, middle-aged people who are pretty active on Facebook . . . it’s going to be useful for them,” she said. The feature will display users’ first names and their ages—like Tinder—and match users who aren’t friends yet, based on what they have in common. Additionally, Facebook has added a tool called “Second Look”—similar to Tinder’s paid feature where you can revisit previous matches, and an option for users to pause matching for those who want to take a brea...

Facebook Expands Dating To Canada And Thailand

Following the success of Facebook Dating in Colombia, Facebook is expanding the service in Canada and Thailand as well. Facebook announced its Dating service during F8 in May, and two months ago in September, it started rolling out in Colombia. Despite Facebook not sharing any specific metrics or signup numbers, we’re assuming that the test went well because the service is now being expanded to Canada and Thailand, with a spokesperson saying Facebook is “pleased with the response in Colombia.” With the expansion into two new markets, Facebook is also adding new features to its Dating service. The first, “Second Look” lets users go back and review people they weren’t previously interested in. The second gives users the ability to pause their Dating profile indefinitely. This will certainly come in handy for those who would like to take a break from online dating, or those who enter an exclusive relationship with someone. Dating is open to users over the age of 1...

Facebook Dating has officially launched in Canada. Canada is the first North American country to launch this new experience. Facebook has always been a place to meet and start conversations with people who share common interests. As a result, Facebook Dating provides Canadians with the opportunity to spark a connection with a potential partner, according to a recent press release. Created to give people full control over their experience, Facebook Dating is a dedicated feature within the Facebook app. Users will be able to match with others based on their preferences and interests through a dedicated dating profile. “ More than 200 million people have listed themselves as single in their relationship status on Facebook. We view this as an incredible opportunity to continue helping people build relationships in meaningful ways on Facebook," Charmaine Hung, Technical Program Manager for Facebook Dating, said in a recent press release. To get started all users have to do ...
Facebook Dating is now available in Thailand and Canada

Facebook has started a dating service back in September whereby Colombia is the first country to experience it firsthand, but now the dating site has reached Thailand and also Canada. Facebook’s dating service is called Facebook Dating, and it’s more like an app within the Facebook app made for Facebook users. The first thing to know is that the service is only available to users who are 18 and above, and this is verified by Facebook checking on the age of the user’s friends, not by the age the user filled in their Facebook page in case it’s not real. While it seems like an effort to prevent underage users to sign up for the dating service, it is not foolproof enough and can still be inaccurate. Besides that, as the dating service was just launched in the two countries, users who signed up will not immediately have matches yet because Facebook plans on waiting for adequate number of people to join the service before starting the matchmaking. Users who are eligible will have to crea...
