Why dating apps won't help you find love in 2019 - Daily Mail

Image
These days many singles turn to dating apps to find a partner but according to one expert they are failing successful women.  According to Yvonne Allen, one of Australia's leading matchmakers, most online dating apps are geared around the concept of 'instant attraction', not long term relationships. 'Instant physical attraction isn't a reliable predictor for the potential for lasting love,' she told FEMAIL.   'This type of approach does not work for successful women as many men are intimidated by them.'  Instead, she said, traditional matchmaking is far more likely to help you to find a match - and lead to a lasting relationship. These days many singles turn to dating apps to find a partner but according to one expert they are failing successful women Yvonne explained that culturally many women are still looking for a partner with a better job or greater career prospects. They are encouraged to 'date up' but this makes the dating pr...

Canadian cancer patients find love amid terminal prognosis - CTV News

TORONTO -- It could have been a meet-cute in a romantic comedy between a man and a "mutant." After weeks of online flirting, Patrick Bardos was en route to meet Anne Marie Cerato for their first date at a coffee shop in downtown Toronto. He texted Cerato to let her know he was only a few blocks away on a packed streetcar crawling through rush-hour traffic. Cerato said she had just passed the same intersection. "Are you wearing blue shoes?" she asked. Bardos looked down at his lapis-blue sneakers, then up to search for Cerato among the thicket of commuters. He felt a tap on his shoulder. Bardos turned around, and there was Cerato, just like the photo on her dating profile -- long dark hair and brown eyes sharpened by angular glasses. Better yet, unlike many of his previous dates, he was taller than her. "You're short," Bardos blurted out. "But I'm short too. And that's not what I meant." Bardos must have said something to redeem hi...

The BTS twitter account shared the new single via their blog, and also penned a thank-you note to fans who have waited patiently for a moment like this. Sabadosa to lead charge for single-payer in House - GazetteNET

Image
NORTHAMPTON — Lindsay Sabadosa made Medicare for All a central part of her successful campaign for the 1st Hampshire House seat this year. Now, the Northampton lawmaker-elect is set to become the lead House sponsor of the long-introduced legislation that could bring a single-payer health system to the Bay State. “I really want to see this pass,” said Sabadosa. “I want to do the work.” Medicare for All and single-payer health care are used interchangeably by single-payer health care advocates to describe a system under which the government serves as the health insurer for all residents. Sabadosa said that when she was at lunch with state Rep. Denise Garlick, D-Needham, the longtime lead sponsor of the Medicare for All bill, Garlick asked her if she wanted to become the lead sponsor. Her reply: “Please don’t joke about that.” But Garlick wasn’t joking, and Sabadosa agreed to become lead sponsor of the bill that has been introduced in the House for more than 20 years. Sabadosa will...

She’s single, with kids. He’s never been married, no kids. - The Seattle Times

Image
Dear Carolyn DEAR CAROLYN: Is it advisable for a never-married man with no kids to get involved with a single mother? I know it’s never a good idea to generalize, but the answer I hear most often is an emphatic no, for many reasons. The main one is the man will always be a lower priority than the woman’s children, and there’s also potential drama with the woman’s ex. There is also the asymmetry in life experiences of a single mother and a never-married man with no kids. — Dating DEAR DATING: I advise your own advice: “It’s never a good idea to generalize.” (1) Millions of children live with their biological mother and a stepfather. Do you really think they’re an “emphatic” 0-for-millions on happiness ever after? (2) Couples who have children, however they get there, always accept some responsibility for making that child a higher priority — than themselves, much less a partner. A minor child’s last line of defense in the world is the adult guardian. Sometimes the circumstances ...

Police Warn Residents to Be Safe While Using Online Dating Sites and Apps - insauga.com

Image
It's a big world out there these days, yet things are moving so fast it's hard for any of us to nail down meaningful relationships through our immediate social circles. Dating apps were supposed to be a way to alleviate that problem. Popular online dating platforms such as eHarmony, Plenty of Fish, Bumble, Tinder, and Grindr have become commonplace. But with such relatively easy access to such dating sources, police are warning people how criminals have now found ways to con or harm users who go in searching for love online. These romance scams have costed some people thousands—and sometimes even tens of thousands—of dollars. "Many dating scams work by setting up fake dating profiles. The offender will try to keep you invested by continually sending you emails filled with talks of love and a desire to build a future with you. After they have sent you a few messages you will be asked to send money to help them out," the police say. Here are some initial war...

Connections: How mobile and online dating apps have changed dating culture - WXXI News

Image
How mobile and online dating apps have changed dating culture Tinder debuted in 2012, and since then, it – and other mobile and online dating apps – has revolutionized dating culture. Research on the subject is still in its early stages, but scientists say the multi-billion dollar industry has taught us a lot about human nature, what people look for in potential partners, and how technology can help or impede the process. This hour, we sit down with people who have used the apps to discuss the pros and cons, and we hear from researchers about how Tinder, Match.com, and other sites have changed the landscape of dating. Our guests: Dennis O’Brien , Rochester resident who uses mobile dating apps Ouliana Nikolaeva-Hir, Rochester resident who met her husband on Tinder Ronald Rogge , associate professor of psychology at the University of Rochester Harry Reis , professor of psychology and dean’s professor in Arts, Sciences, and Engineering at the University of Rochester http:/...

Dating apps make it easier to leave an unhappy relationship - INSIDER

Image
Dating apps haven't ruined happy marriages or our ability to commit, according to The Atlantic. But experts say online dating has a perhaps unexpected side effect: It may make it easier to leave an unfulfilling relationship. Instead of deliberately going to a bar and looking for someone else, you can convince yourself that you're just playing around on the app. I recently read an article in The Atlantic , about the way dating apps have (and haven't) revolutionized love in the last half-decade. Author Ashley Fetters cites two expert opinions on a hotly contested topic: whether online dating has ruined long-term love. Both suspect it has not. That's because, once you're in a happy relationship, you tend to become less interested in other potential partners, even if they're only a swipe away in your pocket. But online dating has, one expert suggested, made it easier to leave unhappy relationships. According to Eli Finkel, a psychologist at Northwestern Uni...

How to Survive New Year's Eve When You're Single - Study Breaks

Post Views: 206 The best-yet-worst time of the year is creeping up on the calendar: New Year’s Eve. A time of year where hope, joy and champagne overcome all other emotions. During the ending of the year, people are more optimistic than ever as a new year approaches. We all know the phrase “new Year, new me,” of course. This tradition, in which people all over the world partake in, brings together loved ones as they jump into the future together. In a world that views New Year’s Eve as one of the biggest parties/events every year, it can be difficult to keep up with the pressure of being single around this time. The bombardment of questions from friends and family about if you’ll ever get a significant other is a tough obstacle to endure over the holiday season. It doesn’t help knowing one of the notorious traditions that keeps New Year’s Eve thriving is the New Year’s kiss: when couples kiss as the clock hits midnight and the world rolls into a new year. But there is always a silv...

Metamora barber Lynn Elbert shutters single-chair shop after almost 60 years - Peoria Journal Star

METAMORA — In the window of a stout building on the edge of town, near the highway's merger down to two lanes before stretching out into vast expanses of vacant cropland, Lynn Elbert hung a closed sign for the final time on Saturday. A different sign — a for sale sign — has been in front of the single-chair barbershop for more than a year, but, after 58 years cutting hair, Elbert didn't want to delay any longer moving to his retirement home at Lake Wildwood in Varna. "I decided I can't wait for it to sell, it's time to go," Elbert said Saturday as his appointment book dwindled to less than a handful of haircuts. "It's been a good ride, people have been good to me. ... I want to make sure to thank everyone for all their support." Elbert's decision to become a barber was as much about what he didn't want to do as it was his preference to work with people. He had already delivered newspapers and punched the clock at a factory in town befo...

North Texas Officer Gives Toys To Children Of Single Mother He Pulled Over - CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

Image
CEDAR HILL (CBSDFW.COM) –  A North Texas police officer delivered a trunk-load of toys to the children of a single mother, who he pulled over. Zai Gallien posted on Facebook she was two minutes from her house in Cedar Hill when she saw flashing lights. She was in tears when she told Officer Ben Schar she didn’t have insurance because she’s a single mom who can’t afford it. Schar took down Gallien’s information and sent her home without a ticket. Hours later, a couple of officers, including Schar, showed up with a trunk full of toys and food. “I had two toys left in my car, so I brought it to her and asked for her address and phone number because I’d like to help her out some more,” said Schar. Gallien said she’s grateful for their kindness. “I will always remember this one,” said Gallien. “It will stand out to me forever for the rest of my life.” Schar said he stopped Gallien for slow-rolling through a stop sign. She thanked him when they reunited Saturday night. “The lo...
