No Country for Old Men Theory Suggests Anton Chigurh Never ... - Startefacts

This movie might have tricked us big time.

Anton Chigurh, the terrifying and emotionless character from No Country for Old Men by Coen Brothers, is considered to be one of the most terrifying antagonists in the history of cinema.

However, there's an interesting theory floating around that challenges our perception of the movie. A YouTuber WhatisAntiLogic? shared some clues that imply that Anton Chigurh isn't real.

Firstly, Anton carries around a huge compressed air tank or chooses a shotgun with a big silencer, instead of using a handgun.

However, no one seems to notice him, even in the scenes when he surely was supposed to be noticed, at least by someone.

Llewelyn Moss, the movie's protagonist portrayed by Josh Brolin, does some unexplainable things that raise questions. The theory suggests that the only explanation might be that Llewelyn Moss and Anton Chigurh are the same person.

We never see Moss and Chigurh in the same scene. They never interacted when someone else was around. Moreover, they both use similar weapons.

Another point is the emphasis on their boots. Firstly, Moss uses his boot to rest his gun off. When he gets the money, the first thing he buys is a new pair of boots. And when he comes back from the hospital, he is wearing just boots and nothing else.

When Anton kills Carson Wells, his boots are also emphasized as he lifts his feet so blood doesn't get on his boots. When he kills Moss' wife, he also checks his boots when he leaves her place.

When Moss buys his new boots, he also mentions that he only wears white socks. We later see that Anton also prefers white socks, and the film focused on this fact a couple of times.

In the movie, both Anton and Llewelyn have car incidents, both get shot and both give money to young people in exchange for clothes.

The way Anton decides the fate of other people by tossing the coin might be a metaphor to his split personality.

If we go back right to the beginning of the film, Llewelyn is out hunting deer. We can see the landscape miles away from Llewely, but why didn't he see the drug deal that he eventually stumbled upon?

The theory suggests that he did know about the deal, and if you imagine Anton in this sequence instead of Moss, it's all coming together.
